Sidelines
a.k.a. On the sidelines
Staying out of the market, holding no positions, usually while waiting for a clearer opportunity.
In plain English
Staying out of the market, holding no positions, usually while waiting for a clearer opportunity.
Being on the sidelines means you are not playing right now. No open trades, just watching. Traders head to the sidelines before big risky events, when the market is confusing, or after a losing streak to reset.
Beginners often feel they must always be in a trade. Professionals know sitting out is a decision too, and often the best one. "Money on the sidelines" is also used to describe cash investors are holding back, waiting to deploy.
