Treasury Bonds
a.k.a. T-bonds, Long bond
Long-term US government debt, issued for 20 or 30 years, paying interest every six months.
In plain English
Long-term US government debt, issued for 20 or 30 years, paying interest every six months.
Treasury bonds (T-bonds) are the US government's longest-dated debt, issued with 20- or 30-year terms. They pay a fixed coupon twice a year and return the face value at maturity. The 30-year is sometimes called "the long bond".
Because they lock money up for so long, their prices swing hard when interest-rate expectations change. Their yields reflect long-run views on inflation and growth, and on how much debt the government is piling up.
