Wallet

a.k.a. Crypto wallet

It doesn't hold your coins. It holds the only keys that can move them.
In plain English

An app or device that holds the keys to your crypto and lets you send, receive and check your coins.

A crypto wallet doesn't actually contain coins. Your coins live on the blockchain. What the wallet holds is your private keys, the secret that proves you own those coins and lets you move them. It also gives you addresses to receive with.

Wallets come in flavours. Hot or cold: online or offline. Custodial or non-custodial: a company holds the keys, or you do. Software or hardware: an app or a dedicated device.

Whatever you choose, back up the seed phrase and never share it. Lose the keys and the coins are stuck forever; leak them and they're someone else's.

Don’t be that stickman

Thinking deleting the wallet app deletes your coins, or that reinstalling brings them back without the seed phrase. The phrase is everything.
