Rug Pull
a.k.a. Rugpull, Rugged, Exit scam
A scam where a project's creators suddenly abandon it and run off with investors' money.
A rug pull is when the people behind a crypto project vanish with the money. The classic version: launch a token, pair it with real funds in a liquidity pool, hype it up, then pull all the real funds out at once. The token is left worth almost nothing, and holders say they got "rugged".
Other versions include developers dumping a huge hidden stash of tokens, or contracts with a secret switch that stops anyone but the creators from selling. Warning signs: anonymous teams, unrealistic promises, liquidity that isn't locked, and a few wallets holding most of the supply.
Assuming a token is safe because it's trending on a decentralized exchange. Anyone can list anything there.
