Autorité des marchés financiers
a.k.a. AMF
France's financial markets regulator, known as the AMF.
In plain English
France's financial markets regulator, known as the AMF. (Quebec in Canada also has a regulator with the same name.)
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) oversees France's markets: it protects investors, polices market abuse and authorises firms. It works alongside EU rules set through ESMA.
Confusingly, the Canadian province of Quebec has its own, separate regulator with the same name. Either way, the lesson is the same: check that a broker is really authorised by a regulator you can look up.
