Bitcoin Dominance

a.k.a. BTC dominance, BTCD, BTC.D

Bitcoin's share of the total value of the whole crypto market, shown as a percentage.
In plain English

Bitcoin's share of the total value of the whole crypto market, shown as a percentage.

Bitcoin dominance divides Bitcoin's market cap by the market cap of every cryptocurrency combined. If all crypto together is worth $2 trillion and Bitcoin is worth $1 trillion of that, dominance is 50%.

Traders read it like a tide chart. Rising dominance means money is crowding into Bitcoin, often when people get nervous. Falling dominance means it is spilling out into altcoins, which some call "alt season". It's a rough gauge, not a signal on its own: dominance also falls if new tokens are simply counted, even if nobody's buying them.
