Geoblock

a.k.a. Geo-blocking, Geofencing

Blocking access to a website or service based on the country a user appears to be in.
In plain English

Blocking access to a website or service based on the country a user appears to be in.

A geoblock shuts the door on users from certain places. The service checks where your connection seems to come from, usually by IP address, and if that country is off-limits, you can't sign up or trade.

Crypto exchanges and DeFi sites often geoblock countries where they lack a licence or where the rules forbid certain products. Dodging a geoblock with a VPN may break the service's terms, and it can get your account frozen with your money inside.

Don’t be that stickman

Using a VPN to open an account on an exchange that doesn't serve your country, then having funds locked when it checks your ID.
