In plain English

A string of letters and numbers that others use to send you crypto, like an account number you can share safely.

A wallet address is where crypto gets sent: a long string such as "bc1q…" for Bitcoin or "0x…" for Ethereum. It's derived from your public key, so you can hand it out freely, a bit like an email address. Your private key is the password that must never be shared.

Addresses are unforgiving. Send to a wrong character, or to an address on a different network, and the coins may be lost for good. One nasty trick, "address poisoning", sends you tiny payments from a look-alike address hoping you'll copy it from your history next time.

Don’t be that stickman

Copying an address from your transaction history instead of from the source. Check the first and last several characters every single time.
