Maximum Supply

a.k.a. Max supply, Mintage cap, Supply cap

The most coins a cryptocurrency will ever have, fixed by its code.
In plain English

The most coins a cryptocurrency will ever have, fixed by its code.

Maximum supply is the hard ceiling on how many units of a cryptocurrency can ever exist. Bitcoin's is 21 million: no committee can vote to print more, because the limit is baked into the software every node runs. Some coins have no cap at all and keep issuing new units forever.

It matters because scarcity is a big part of the pitch. A fixed cap is the opposite of a central bank that can expand the money supply. Just remember that a cap only limits supply; it says nothing about how much demand there will be.
