Premining
a.k.a. Premine, Pre-mined coins
Creating a batch of coins for the founders or insiders before a cryptocurrency is launched to the public.
In plain English
Creating a batch of coins for the founders or insiders before a cryptocurrency is launched to the public.
Premining is when a crypto project mints a chunk of its coins before the public can join in, usually for the founders, developers or early backers. It can fund development, but it also means insiders start with a big pile while everyone else starts at zero.
Large premines are a red flag worth checking. If a small group holds a big share of supply, they can flood the market by selling, crushing the price for later buyers.
