Rally
a.k.a. Rebound
A strong, sustained rise in price.
In plain English
A strong, sustained rise in price.
A rally is price climbing with purpose. Not a one-candle twitch, but a run higher that lasts long enough for people to notice and talk about it. "The dollar rallied after the jobs data" means buyers stormed in and kept pushing.
Rallies inside a downtrend are often called relief rallies or bear-market rallies, and they can be fierce and short-lived. The opposite of a rally is a sell-off.
