Romanian Leu

a.k.a. RON

Romania's currency, which floats but is closely watched by its central bank against the euro.
In plain English

Romania's currency, which floats but is closely watched by its central bank against the euro.

The Romanian leu (RON, plural lei) is Romania's money; "leu" means lion. Romania is an EU member that has not yet adopted the euro. Its central bank manages the leu against the euro, keeping EUR/RON unusually stable for a floating currency. In 2005 Romania knocked four zeros off the old leu to create the current one.
