Soft Cap
The minimum amount a crypto project aims to raise in a token sale; if it falls short, the sale may be cancelled and money returned.
A soft cap is a token sale's minimum target. If a project sets a soft cap of 2 million dollars and raises only 1 million, it may refund buyers because it does not have enough to build what it promised. The hard cap is the opposite: the maximum it will accept.
Soft caps are a weak protection at best. Whether money actually gets refunded depends on the project's honesty or smart-contract code, so check how a refund would work before buying into an ICO or presale.
