Spinning Top
A candlestick with a small body and long wicks on both sides, showing indecision between buyers and sellers.
In plain English
A candlestick with a small body and long wicks on both sides, showing indecision between buyers and sellers.
A spinning top is a candle with a little body sitting in the middle of long upper and lower shadows. Buyers pushed price up, sellers pushed it down, and by the close nobody had won much ground. Like a top spinning in place, it could tip either way.
On its own it simply says "indecision". After a strong trend, it can be an early sign the trend is losing momentum. It is a close relative of the doji.
