Total Supply
a.k.a. Max supply
How many coins of a cryptocurrency exist right now, including ones that are locked up and not yet trading.
Total supply counts every coin that's been created so far, minus any that were burned, including coins locked up for the team, investors or future rewards. Circulating supply counts only what's free to trade. Max supply is a third figure: the most that can ever exist, like Bitcoin's 21 million. Some coins have no max at all.
The gap between them is worth watching. If total supply is far bigger than circulating supply, a lot of coins are waiting in the wings, and when they unlock, their owners may sell.
