Non-Farm Payrolls

a.k.a. NFP, Nonfarm payrolls, Jobs report

First Friday of the month, 8:30 a.m. in New York: the most dangerous minute in forex.
In plain English

The monthly count of jobs added or lost in the US economy outside farming, one of the most market-moving releases there is.

Non-farm payrolls (NFP) is the headline number of the US jobs report, usually released on the first Friday of the month at 8:30 a.m. New York time. It shows how many jobs the economy gained or lost in the previous month, leaving out farm workers, private household staff and some others.

It matters because jobs drive spending, and spending drives the economy and the Fed's next move. On NFP Friday, the dollar can be dead calm at 8:29 and whipping 100 pips in both directions at 8:31. Spreads widen and slippage gets ugly. Many traders simply stay flat through it.

Don’t be that stickman

Leaving a tight stop-loss in place through NFP and getting knocked out by a spike that reverses seconds later.
