Private Blockchain
a.k.a. Permissioned blockchain
A blockchain run by one organisation or a closed group, where only approved participants can join or write to it.
A private blockchain is a members-only club. One company or a small group decides who may run a node, who can read the data and who can add records. That's why it's also called permissioned.
Businesses like it for sharing records between partners, such as banks settling trades or firms tracking supply chains, because it's fast and keeps sensitive data in-house. The trade-off is that you're back to trusting whoever controls it. Compare public blockchain.
