Solana

a.k.a. SOL

A high-speed, low-fee blockchain for apps and tokens, with SOL as its coin.
In plain English

A high-speed, low-fee blockchain for apps and tokens, with SOL as its coin.

Solana is a blockchain launched in 2020, built to be fast and cheap. It combines proof of stake with a clock-like system for ordering transactions, letting it handle huge volumes with tiny fees. Its coin, SOL, pays those fees and is staked to secure the network.

It became a hub for trading apps, NFTs and meme tokens. The trade-off for its speed: running a validator needs powerful hardware, and the network suffered several high-profile outages in its early years.
