Treasury International Capital
a.k.a. TIC, TIC data, TIC flows
A monthly US Treasury report tracking how much foreigners are buying and selling of US stocks, bonds and other assets.
The Treasury International Capital (TIC) report shows money flowing in and out of US financial assets. Are foreigners buying US government bonds or dumping them? Which countries hold the most Treasuries?
Because the US runs a big current account deficit, it relies on foreigners to keep buying its assets. Signs of steady selling can weigh on the dollar. The data comes with a lag of a couple of months, so it is better at confirming trends than predicting them.
