Yield Guild Games (YGG) became famous in the 2021 "play-to-earn" craze. It bought in-game NFTs for blockchain games like Axie Infinity and lent them to players, often in the Philippines and other developing countries, who could not afford them. The players earned game tokens and shared a cut with the guild.
It is organised as a DAO with its own token. When play-to-earn token prices crashed in 2022, the economics behind the model took a heavy hit.
