Public Key
The shareable half of a crypto key pair, used to create your receiving address and to verify your signatures.
In plain English
The shareable half of a crypto key pair, used to create your receiving address and to verify your signatures.
A public key is generated from your private key using one-way maths: easy to get from private to public, practically impossible to reverse. Your wallet address is derived from it, so you can share it freely for people to send you coins.
When you sign a transaction with your private key, anyone can use your public key to check the signature is real, without ever seeing the secret. That is the magic of asymmetric cryptography.
