Shill
a.k.a. Shilling, Shiller
Someone who hypes a coin to get others to buy, usually because they own it or are being paid, often without saying so.
A shill talks up a coin while hiding the reason: they hold a bag of it, or someone's paying them. To shill is to do the hyping. The posts look like enthusiasm or insider tips; the goal is your buy order lifting their price.
Paid influencers, anonymous accounts in comment sections, bots flooding a hashtag: shilling is everywhere in crypto, and it's the fuel behind many a pump and dump. Always ask who benefits if you buy.
Treating a confident stranger's 'this coin will 50x' post as research. Check if they disclosed what they own and whether they were paid.
