Whale
a.k.a. Whales, Crypto whale
A person or organisation holding so much of a coin that their buying or selling can move its price.
A whale holds a huge amount of a cryptocurrency, enough that a single trade of theirs can push the price around. Early adopters, funds, exchanges and project founders are often whales.
Because the blockchain is public, people track whale wallets with on-chain analysis and get jumpy when a giant pile of coins moves towards an exchange. In small coins, a few whales holding most of the supply is a red flag: they can dump on everyone else at any time. A whale selling hard is sometimes called a bear whale.
Buying a small token without checking how much of the supply sits in a handful of wallets.
