Cold Wallet

a.k.a. Cold storage

Your coins in a safe at the bottom of the sea. Slower to reach, much harder to rob.
In plain English

A wallet whose keys are kept offline, away from the internet and the hackers on it.

A cold wallet keeps your private keys on something that never touches the internet: a hardware wallet, a paper wallet or an offline computer. Keeping coins this way is called cold storage.

Because the keys stay offline, malware and remote hackers can't simply reach in and grab them. The price is convenience: you need the device in hand to spend. Many people keep a little in a hot wallet for everyday use, like a pocket wallet, and the bulk in cold storage, like a vault.

Don’t be that stickman

Storing your cold wallet's seed phrase as a photo on your phone or in cloud notes. That drags your 'cold' keys straight back online.
