Seed Phrase

a.k.a. Recovery phrase, Mnemonic phrase, Secret recovery phrase, Backup phrase

Twelve ordinary words. Read them aloud to the wrong person and your savings walk out the door.
In plain English

A list of 12 or 24 words that can rebuild your entire wallet. Whoever has the words has the coins.

A seed phrase is the master key to a self-custody wallet, written as 12 or 24 ordinary words in a set order. From those words, the wallet can regenerate every private key and every address it has ever made. Lose your phone or hardware wallet, type the words into a new one, and everything comes back.

That power is exactly the danger. Anyone who sees the words can take everything, from anywhere in the world, with no way to stop them. Write it on paper (or stamp it into metal), keep it somewhere safe and offline, and never type it into a website, a chat, or a "support" form.

No real wallet company, exchange or support agent will ever ask for it. Anyone who does is trying to rob you.
