Multisig

a.k.a. Multi-signature, Multisignature wallet

A crypto wallet setup that needs several separate keys to sign before any money can move.
In plain English

A crypto wallet setup that needs several separate keys to sign before any money can move.

Multisig (multi-signature) is a crypto safe with several locks. Instead of one private key controlling the funds, you might create three keys and require any two of them to approve a transaction ("2-of-3"). Lose one key and you can still get in; a thief who steals one key still cannot get out.

Companies and crypto treasuries use it so no single employee can run off with the money. Individuals use it to spread keys between a hardware wallet, a backup and a trusted person.
